Precision Import Repair
I brought my car in because - in priority order - I started to hear and feel something strange when I depressed the accelerator, the electrical outlets weren’t working, and the maintenance light was on. The next morning I had a cost estimate of ~$4000, and they wanted me to authorize MORE labor so they could take apart my dash to keep diagnosing the airbag issue that had triggered the maintenance light. They hadn’t even taken checked the MAIN issue that brought me in, which was how the car was actually running. They had replaced two fuses and changed my oil and filter + casing. They had given me a “courtesy” inspection, but there were also two separate $200 charges: one for having connected their little computer to get the check engine code and one for attempting to diagnose why my heat and AC work intermittently. I had to tell them to stop there, because I had a bill of almost $800 already for an oil change and the two fuses, plus I let them replace the bulbs I didn’t know were out. When I picked the car up, I asked the shop manager/receptionist “What could I have said differently to you that would have made you look at the main thing I brought the car in for?” She stuttered and started to blame their online intake form. “But you and I spoke on the phone,” I said, “Did the online report supersede what I told you on the phone with my voice?” She deflected, and so I just gave up and paid, because I am a single mom and meagerly paid public servant with no time and less money, who needed to get going to visit a friend who just got out of the hospital. If they had wanted to be honest and help fix my car, they would have made it obvious when I lamented that they didn’t even look at the main thing I was worried about. I’m so disappointed. It’s been a very long time since I felt taken advantage of by an auto shop for being a woman, but this shop managed to do it. I chose this shop because of a few good reviews on Reddit, but those were all from men. I’m giving the shop the benefit of the doubt that they’re just misogynistic and not incompetent, but I guess it could be either. I’m down $750 for two fuses, an oil change, and couple of bulbs, and they didn’t even begin to check the reason my car is running strangely. With their cost estimate, I would have paid $4000 for them to do a bunch of stuff and still NOT have even LOOKED at what brought me in. Mad doesn’t begin to describe how I feel. It’s just disgusting. I feel queasy. I don’t want a reply from them. I want to know why my car sounds funny when I depress the accelerator. I would have brought it back to them every other month until i got every single thing on their list done, but instead I’m scared to bring my car anywhere for fear of being treated like a rube. They’ve had a huge negative impact on my ability to stay above water, and for NOTHING. I do not recommend them.
